Secrets of the Heart

Their nudges, sighs, and constant noises
Reminders of my errant choices
A cacophony of guilty voices—
These secrets of my heart.

They visit me when all is quiet
Free from life’s unceasing riot
And call me Shame’s compliant client—
These secrets of my heart.

But a voice it bids me to begin
To let it come and dwell within
To sift between the hurt and sin—
These secrets of my heart.

His gentle words both cut and heal
Showing what is false and real
Revealing all that I conceal—
These secrets of my heart.

Then on a gentle breeze they rise
These voices turn toward the skies
And lift their wings like butterflies—
These secrets of my heart.

A new voice now it sings to me
And so I share the melody
To woo my friends so they can free—
These secrets of the heart.
