FORGOTTEN

How does God feel when he looks down and sees the world...

You watch—unseen and seeing all—
The straying hands and straying heart
You watch your child, your bride
Dancing with the darkness
Not hating you, not despising you, just…
Forgetting you.

Her heart is stone,
Her heart has forgotten every gentle word
You whispered in her ear
Every tender touch
As you dried her tears.

You watch—unseen and seeing all—
As she wraps her arms around the world,
She twines her ankles and rides
Shrouded in desire
Not hating you, not despising you, just…
Forgetting you.

Her memory is fogged
Her heart has forgotten her promise
She remembers not her vow, your vow
Faithful always, you said
And you are.

You watch—unseen and seeing all—
As she turns to all but you
Filling up on emptiness
Ever hungry
Not hating you, not despising you, just…
Forgetting you.

And you cry. Oh, how you cry.
